A call has been made to elected and appointed public office holders from Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in Delta State to facilitate the tarring of Asaba/Okpanam/Issele-Azagba Road through Amachai Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
Making the call recently, the Chairman of Amachai Community, Comrade Emeka Egwuogu, said: “It is a short stretch of road but, very important as it links three local government areas and will also make people to travel to Asaba without passing through the busy Benin/Asaba Expressway.
“Okpanam as part of the state capital territory is witnessing the influx of people and this road will make people to travel to Asaba without passing through the airport. It will also ease congestion on that part of the road,” Comrade Egwuogu said, adding, “we are calling on our member in the House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu; the members representing Oshimili South, Oshimili North and Aniocha North constituencies in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourables Peter Onwusanya, Pat Ajudua, Victor Ochei and all the sons and daughters of Aniocha/Oshimili to make the road a priority project.”
He added that the road will also facilitate the movement of people, who are residing in Okpanam and go to work in Akwukwu-Igbo, Asaba, Onitsha and other places.
Also commenting, Comrade Friday Okonkwo, said, “farmers and our people in general will find it easier to visit Asaba through this road,” emphasising that, “Amachai community has been grading this road, but, we cannot grade it beyond our land which makes it difficult to pass through. We want the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) to grade this road and make it motorable to Issele-Azagba because many people prefer to pass through this road than to pass through the expressway.”
He further urged concerned governmental organisations to make the road a priority project, observing that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State was doing a lot for Deltans, especially with regards to road construction.
